Myopia Control Management
For Better Eye Health
At HineSight, located in the heart of Sydney CBD, we offer advanced myopia management therapies. Understanding the impact of myopia on daily life and long-term vision, we offer personalised solutions to manage and slow the progression of short-sightedness in children and young adults. Our dedicated optometrist, Narelle Hine, uses the latest research and lens technology to ensure our methods are effective and tailored to each individual's needs.
What Is Myopia?
Myopia, commonly known as shortsightedness, is a vision condition where objects close to the eye are clear, while those objects farther away appear blurred. This refractive error occurs because light doesn't focus directly on the retina.
Myopia Symptoms
And Risks
- Blurry vision when looking at distant objects
- The need to squint or partially close the eyes to see clearly
- Headaches caused by eyestrain
- Difficulty seeing while driving, especially at night
If left unmanaged, high myopia can progress and lead to serious eye health issues later in life, including an increased risk of glaucoma, cataracts, and retinal detachment. Early and effective intervention is crucial to prevent these complications.
Myopia Management is
Not Just for Children
We offer a variety of treatment options to control myopia in children and young adults:
Vision Correction
We provide specially designed spectacles and contact lenses that correct vision and help slow the progression of the condition. Our optometrist, Narelle Hine, will recommend the most suitable lens therapies and may also discuss atropine drops, depending on the individual’s activity level and family history. Interestingly, children in our clinic respond well to trying contact lenses.
We recommend using lens technology to manage myopia progression until the body's growth phase is complete, usually in the late teens.
Contact HineSight to schedule an appointment and discover how our tailored myopia control management methods can help maintain visual and retinal health now and in the future. Embrace clearer vision and a better quality of life with our care.
Ortho-K for Myopia Management
Orthokeratology, or ortho-k, is one of our most effective treatments for controlling myopia. This non-surgical procedure uses specially designed rigid contact lenses that patients wear overnight. These lenses gently and painlessly reshape the eye's cornea, correcting shortsightedness so individuals can see clearly without glasses or contact lenses during the day.
Ortho-k is particularly effective for children and young adults, as it can significantly slow the progression of myopia during growth years. With ortho-k, patients can enjoy clear vision without the hassle of glasses or daily contact lenses.
